Responsibilities

Responsibility for the enforcement of health and safety legislation is split between the Health and Safety Executive and the team - depending on the nature of the business. Typically, sectors such as retailing, catering, offices and warehousing are dealt with by local authority officers.

Local businesses are subject to periodic inspection, according to the assessed health and safety risk.

Businesses should notify the council or the HSE prior to opening or if there is a significant change in their activities. For further information, please contact us.

Accidents

Notifiable accidents, incidents and occupational diseases should be notified directly to the Incident Contact Centre:

Tel: 0845 300 9923 (calls charged at local rate)
Fax: 0845 300 9924 (calls charged at local rate)
E-mail: riddor@natbrit.com
Website: www.riddor.gov.uk

Enforcement Policy

The team follows a clear and staged approach to enforcement of the legal requirements.
