Housing Land Availability Assessment

Background

Government guidance advises all local planning authorities to carry out housing land availability assessments (previously urban capacity studies). The aim is to evaluate the potential for re-using previously developed land and buildings and reduce the amount of greenfield land needed for development. The findings of the first Urban Capacity Study (UCS) were published with the First Deposit Draft Local Plan. A review of the UCS was undertaken to inform the Revised Deposit Draft which was published in October 2003. Swindon Borough Council published a second review of the UCS in December 2004 to inform the Local Plan Inquiry.

Housing Land Availability Assessment

To comply with current planning legislation Swindon Borough Council has produced a Housing Land Availability Assessment. The main report and the site capacity appendix can be downloaded as pdf files.

Main Report (162KB)

Site Capacities (45KB)

Please note Appendices 1-3 which indicate the settlement boundaries within the Borough are not able to be put on to the website, these are available on request, or if you require copies of any of the previous urban capacity studies, then please Contact Forward Planning.
