Evidence Base

The preparation of development plans under the new planning system requires the Borough Council to compile an Evidence Base, which is a collection of background technical documents used to inform the Core Strategy and Swindon Central Area Action Plan. The Evidence Base covers such issues as housing need, employment provision, transportation, retail, the natural environment and outdoor playing space.

In the autumn of 2006, the Council's Forward Planning and Economic Development sections instructed consultants Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners to undertake a thorough assessment of employment conditions in Swindon Borough. The study was completed in June 2007 and the various components of the study are attached below. The study examines a wide range of employment issues related to the Borough and makes several recommendations concerning possible future economic options and requirements.
