Stage 1: Issues and Options Consultation (Reg. 25) Nov 2006 – Jan 2007
Stage 2: Preferred Options Consultation (Reg. 26) 30 April 2007 – 25 June 2007

The Area Action Plan also takes account of corporate objectives, in particular those of the Sustainable Community Strategy. The Swindon Strategic Partnership (SSP) has the role of delivering the Sustainable Community Strategy and implementing the Swindon Local Area Agreement (the delivery plan for achieving the Sustainable Community Strategy). Fully integrating work between the SSP and the LDF is vital to ensure that the LDF properly reflects the aspirations and priorities of the Swindon community as expressed in the Sustainable Community Strategy.

Status

Area Action Plans are subject to independent examination and have the status of 'Development Plan Documents'. This means that upon adoption, the Swindon Central Area Action Plan will become the key planning document against which planning applications in the Central Area will be considered.

Form and Content

Area Action Plans are a new planning policy mechanism, provided by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, and form part of the Local Development Framework . Government Guidance states that Area Action Plans should also focus upon implementation of proposals within the Action Plan area. Area Action Plan should provide a mechanism for ensuring development of an appropriate scale and mix is delivered.
