Service Details
The Education Support Service provides educational support to a wide range of children and young people across the Borough of Swindon from 0 to 19 years. This takes the form of:
Assessment, both statutory and non-statutory
Advice and training for school staff, parents and carers, one to one, small group, on-site or at a training venue
A variety of support packages based on the individual needs of children and young people
The service covering six service areas of special educational needs:
Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia
Social Communication and Interaction Difficulties/Autism
Physical Disability
Visual Impairment
Hearing Impairment
Special Educational Needs/Information Communication Technology/Augmentative and Alternative Communication
Types of Provision
| Support available to all children and young people, in localities were appropriate. |
General training and advice on access to education for those with Special Educational Needs and disability is offered to staff in schools and settings.
School and setting staff can make small changes to support need. |
Through local school or surgery. |
| Support for those children and young people with additional needs who need targeted services. |
General advice and training on access to education where children and young people have the following needs:
Social Communication and Interaction Difficulties, including Autism (SCID)
Special Educational Needs/Information and Communication Technology/Alternative and Augmentative Communication needs (SEN/ICT/AAC)
Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia (SpLD)
Physical Disability (PD)
Hearing Impairment (HI)
Visual Impairment (VI)
Training in these areas for school and setting staff, parents and other professionals. |
Through school or setting where children and young people are registered. |
For those children and young people with multiple needs who need specialist services.
Those not making progress after support as above, or because of the severe nature of their need. |

Social Communication and Interaction Difficulties, including Autism (SCID)
Special Educational Needs/Information and Communication Technology/Alternative and Augmentative Communication needs (SEN/ICT/AAC)
Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia (SpLD)
Physical Disability (PD)
Hearing Impairment (HI)
Visual Impairment (VI)
General and specific training in these areas for school and setting staff, parents and other professionals. |
Through school or setting where child or young person is registered. |
| For those children and young people in need of immediate care and protection who need specialist services. Those with the most severe needs after support as above, or because of the acute nature of their need. |
