Children's Centres in Swindon

Swindon has 5 Children’s Centres and 2 Family Centres across the Borough as well as a smaller centre offering family support. Skilled professional staff at all centres help to ensure:

  • The best start in life for every child
  • Better opportunities for parents
  • Affordable good quality childcare and education
  • Stronger and safer communities

Children’s Centres

The Children’s Centres are run by 4Children - a national charity. At these centres you will find:

  • Health and education services for parents, carers and their children from birth to four years of age
  • Support for families, including information and advice on parenting and child development
  • Free early education sessions and affordable full or part-time daycare, either within the Children's Centre building or at a local nursery
  • Information and help with applying for two year old funding
  • Help for families with a child who has special needs or a disability
  • Child and family health services including antenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding support and speech and language therapy
  • Help with employment and training for parents through close links with Jobcentre Plus and colleges

Family centres

These centres contribute to the range of support available for 0 – 5 year olds and their parents including:

  • Evidence based parenting groups (for example: Family Links, Triple P and Working Together With Parents)
  • Programme of support for parents and children aged 0 -2
  • Early Bird – West Swindon Family Centre
  • Early Bird Plus – Butterflies Family Centre
  • 1 to 1 Family Support to enable children and families to access groups (evidence based, such as those listed above, as well as volunteer or self-led groups and groups delivered by partners)
  • Additional groups run by parents and community members

Registering at a centre

You can contact the centre directly. If you are unsure which centre covers your area your health visitor will be able to help you.  For some areas of Swindon that may not have a Children’s Centre in its area Health visitors will be able to offer additional support and signpost you to groups running in your area.
