Holiday Childcare Services

Services for primary school children

Holiday childcare services for primary school aged children aim to provide a safe environment for children to have a good time while their parents are at work. Across Swindon holiday childcare services are offered by a variety of registered providers including

  • Leisure centres
  • Private or voluntary out of school clubs
  • Daycare nurseries
  • Childminders

Some holiday childcare services are located on school sites. A child does not have to attend that school to use the holiday club located there. Providers charge for holiday childcare services and it is recommended that parents ask about financial help for childcare costs from the Family Information Service.

Services for secondary school children

Finding suitable activities for older children during school holidays that fit with a parent’s work can be challenging. Most group based holiday childcare services offer provision to children up to the age of twelve. Some registered groups and childminders do offer provision for older children but compared with services for younger children there are fewer choices. Many families manage using a combination of leisure activities, informal care with family and friends and flexible working.

For more information about choosing holiday childcare or to search for holiday childcare services for your child, please go to the Family Information Service page.

Wheely Fun Scheme

The Wheely Fun Project will offer "open access" play sessions to a wide range of isolated urban and rural communities, where there are few facilities for play and recreation. The sessions will enable children and young people between 6-14 years old to engage in a wide range of creative and artistic play as well as outdoor games and activities.

All of our playschemes are "open access" which means that children are free to come and go. The staff are only responsible for those children who remain on site. Please seek alternative arrangements if you require a care scheme.
