Threshold Housing Link

Threshold Housing Link logoThreshold Housing Link is a local independent charity which provides emergency, short-, medium- and long-term accommodation to single homeless people. The accommodation is linked to a programme of resettlement.

How Threshold Can Help

The services provided by Threshold Housing Link are:

The Street Outreach Service

This aims to make contact and provide advice and support to those who are sleeping rough or are in unsustainable temporary accommodation such as squats. This service also offers an advocacy role for clients who are excluded from other accommodation or homeless services or need assistance to access primary health care services or benefits.

Direct Access Accommodation

This is available at Culvery Court. This hostel provides 20 beds and has 24-hour staff cover. The emergency short-term accommodation offers support and advice to assist single homeless men with issues that trigger and exacerbate homelessness such as substance misuse, mental health, poor life skills and other related issues.

The Move-On Hostels

Culvery Court, SwindonThese provide a resettlement programme in medium-term, shared, supported accommodation for both men and women. This accommodation is accessed by internal referral or from other organisations or by clients themselves. The programme provides intensive housing management and individual life skills training plans. There are currently four hostels and up to four people share each house. Residents are responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the accommodation. Staff support is available through a key working process and over 24 hours through an on-call system. Referrals should require medium to low personal support and be willing to undergo the resettlement programme. Nominations for permanent accommodation are supported by personal reference and realisation may take up to 18 months before independent, community-based accommodation is available.

16 to 21-year-old Care Leavers

Two adjoining hostels offer accommodation for up to six people who require support and life skills training before accepting independent accommodation. The ethos of the project promotes independency through further education, training and work experience. This mixed accommodation is accessed by referral only from other agencies, by internal referral or self referral. Residents must be willing to undertake the resettlement programme and require medium support. Residents are responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the accommodation.

Canal Lodge

The lodge will provide intensive supported accommodation for people with substance misuse Issues. This project opened in January 2003 and will provide supported accommodation for those contemplating rehabilitation from substance misuse and are engaged in the process of moving to a substance free life. The use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated but controlled detox regimes will be supported. This mixed accommodation requires participation in harmonious communal living, with residents being responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the property. Participation in both individual and group sessions will be a requirement of the residential agreement, as will a motivated approach to the resettlement programme which teaches life skills and accommodation sustainment and maintenance.

The Rent Scheme

This offers a programme of rent and deposit management for homeless people wishing to access, and landlords providing, private rented accommodation.

Floating Support

This is a service available to those who have completed the resettlement programme. It offers continued support within the client’s community-based, permanent accommodation. This service is aimed at helping people sustain and maintain their independent accommodation and living.

Jubilee House

This provides permanent accommodation for up to five older homeless men who require supported, shared accommodation and do not wish to, or cannot, live alone. The ethos of the house is to provide a settled way of life within a familial setting without the need to move on.
