Parachallenge 2009
The second Parachallenge proved to be another great success.

The disability sports event, gave adults and children the opportunity to try a whole host of sports including wheelchair basketball, tennis, swimming, frisbee golf and climbing to name but a few and with participants coming from as far a-field as London, Cornwall and Nottingham.
Organised by Swindon Borough Council and sponsored by Nationwide, the event helps to raise awareness of the facilities the town has to offer disabled people. Clare Whyte of Nationwide said “Nationwide Building Society is proud to be supporting the Swindon Parachallenge event this year. We believe it's a great opportunity to encourage sporting activities across the borough. This complements the long standing partnership we have with Disability Sport Events promoting swimming and athletics.”
Swindon Borough Council’s Ability Sports Development Officer, Ben Humphrey said “The Parachallenge is an opportunity to celebrate disability sport in Swindon. It provides local clubs and individuals the chance to try different sports and also promotes the pathways to regular physical activity. Disability sport has changed dramatically over the last decade and public awareness has increased. More and more people of all ages with a disability are interested in sport. Sport programmes and opportunities in Swindon have increased in scope and number and overall sport has become a viable option for anyone with a disability”.
The event closed with an inspirational speech by Paralympian Athlete, Ben Rushgrove, 100m Silver Medalist.
