The Imaging Festival

Festival activitiesFrom a digital funfair to making films, hundreds of people had a great time at Swindon’s third Imaging Festival on 17 November 2007.

In this celebration of the creative potential of film, photography and digital art, over 250 people, mainly children and teenagers, stopped by the Boredbrand Digital Funfair in Theatre Square, where they had a go at interactive Space Invaders on a bike! Project Coordinator Alison Riordan said, “The tent was decorated brilliantly, lots of people came throughout the day, even though it was freezing, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The older kids especially liked the Vjing opportunity, which was very popular.”

Over to the Fluxmobile at Regent Circus, and there were so many people attending that unfortunately some had to be turned away. In this amazing state-of-the-art digital studio space, people made films and put music to them before heading to Create Studios at the Wyvern Theatre to see their films on screen in a virtual gallery.

Other events at Create included:

  • I Am The Mighty Jungulator
  • Dane Watkins Mobile Phone Animation workshop
  • the Walker Evans exhibition
  • and Preloader.

Over 120 people voted during the Preloader Film Competition, and this was won by Katy Davis’s outstanding animated music video Gone Fishing.

The Imaging Festival was organised by Create Studios, part of Swindon Borough Council. Head of Create Stuart Webb said, “It was a fantastic day. So many people took part in so many different ways and there was a real buzz. We had a great turn out from local artists and filmmakers, and it was brilliant. We’re already looking ahead to 2008 and beginning to plan the Imaging Festival so if you have any feedback, please contact us.”
