Work by Lethridge pupil

Monsters and Beasts at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery

Over 140 five to seven year old children from Lethbridge School in Old Town Swindon created monsters and beasts in the Art Gallery, taking inspiration from 'Jake and Dinos Chapman: My Colouring Book' exhibition and Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild Beasts Art'.

The session combined storytelling, drama and drawing. The children played picture consequences to create fantastic beasts and designed their very own monsters in chalk, charcoal and pastels. Each session finished with a 'wild rumpus'!

Jake and Dinos Chapman exhibitCatherine Lynn-Jones, a teacher from Lethbridge School, said, "It was superb! The children were engaged from start to finish. We will be able to build on the work in our Literacy lessons. Fantastic!"

If you're a teacher who would like your pupils to have a thoroughly creative time here, contact Elaine Bennett, Education Officer on 01793 466556 or ebennett@swindon.gov.uk

Sessions like this one are designed around school-based themes.

We also have off-the-shelf sessions on art, the Egyptians and Romans.
