Crowdy's Hill Community School

Children in Crowdy's film projectHot on the heels of our success at the First Light Awards this year for Best Documentary, YourFilm, Create Studios’ young people's group, has received a grant of £5,000 to facilitate a collaboration between themselves - a group of aspiring young filmmakers - and group of autistic pupils from Crowdy’s Hill Community School.

Working alongside the 25 young people aged between 12 and 19 is Professional Film Director, Gurchetan Singh and Production Manager, Elise Hurcombe. They will help them create a documentary which will give an insight into how young people living with autism view the world.

Youth Offending Team

Youth worker in the filmAnother welcome collaboration with the Youth Offending Team (YOT) and Ideal Films was premiered recently. Out with the Old, in with the New will be distributed around the South West as a resource for other YOTs in the region, helping to combat patterns of re-offending in the under 25s. In this film, young people talk openly of their experiences of offending and being arrested, about the negative effects this has had on their lives and future plans, and how they're attempting to turn their lives around. The young people were closely involved with the production of the film, from initial planning to final music. They were determined that the film would tell their stories in their own words, so they made sure they played a big part in the editing and in briefing the composer and approving the music. The film was premiered at the Wyvern Theatre to a delighted audience including the Mayor of Swindon, Swindon Borough Council CEO Gavin Jones, and invited guests from neighbouring Youth Offending Teams.
