Your Film have been being nominated for Best Thriller in the 2009 First Light film awards.

Scene from Rite of PassageMobile Media have been mentoring the team of Your Film - a group of young Swindon filmmakers - and we are delighted that their film Rite of Passage has been recognised.

The award ceremony will take place in Leicester Square, London, on Tuesday 17 March 2009, hosted by T4's Miquita Oliver and Rick Edwards.

The short list of three nominated films was drawn up using an industry panel and youth jury. The winning film will be judged by a group of celebrity judges which will include: Daniel Craig, Joseph Fiennes, Josh Hartnett, Orlando Bloom, Kate Beckinsale, Emilia Fox, Sienna Miller, Marc Forster, David Harewood, Freddie Highmore, Juliet Stevenson, Dakota Blue Richards, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Miller and many many more.

Mobile Media Director Shahina Johnson says, "We are so proud of Your Film and wish them all the best in March."

Your Film at workSherylee Houssein, sound recordist and editor of Rite of Passage, said the film features a young girl who leaves home to join a female cult full of white dresses, chickens and satanic rituals. Her best friend betrays her and she is torn between her new life of freedom or going back to her brother. She added, "I'm so excited that we've nominated again (Your Film is made up largely of the former Boffin Club). It was great fun to work on a night shoot and I can't wait for the award ceremony!"

Your Film were mentored by Ideal Films on this project, using the same team who worked with the group on their award-winning Icehouse. Keith Phillips, Director of Ideal Films, said: 'It was a very demanding project, but as with all great challenges, the rewards are even sweeter. We are especially grateful to First Light, who were very patient with us through all our difficulties, and we are delighted they are so pleased with the final product."

The Child and Me

At a star-studded oscars-style ceremony in Leicester Square on the 4 March 2007, pupils from Isambard Community School were overjoyed to win the First Light film award for Best Documentary.

The Child and Me was made by children from five Swindon schools with Mobile Media. They beat over a hundred other films to clinch the award for Best Documentary at the presitigious national First Light Movie Awards. There was an amazing profile of judges - Orlando Bloom, Kevin Spacey, Nira Park, Stephen Fry and Sam Mendes.

The young filmmakers were joined by the Mobile Media team to meet a range of celebrities and receive their award, and had to address a hall of 200 hopefuls to make their acceptance speech!

Thrilled

Shahina Johnson, Director of Mobile Media, says, “We are so thrilled to have received this prestigious award – and it is a real testament to the dedication of our filmmaking team at Create who want young people to produce work that is truly professional and tackles moving and gripping topics.”

Rachael Mattey, Headteacher of Isambard School said, “I am very proud of the children and the film! It has been a wonderful experience for them both making the film and now going to the awards ceremony in London to find that they are winners! We look forward to watching their filmmaking go from strength to strength.”

Incredible

Ryan Jones, from Isambard Community School, who gave the acceptance speech at the ceremony said, “It was incredible to be up there and receive our award. It was great making the film, and I can’t wait to plan our next project now that we have had this incredible award!”

Icehouse wins First Light Award

The Boffin Club - a group of Swindon girls - completed their training in film making in style on the 28 February 2006, as they networked with stars at the prestigious First Light Awards in Leicester Square and won their category of Best Thriller, surpassing the crème of young film making talent from around the country with their film Icehouse.

The girls were presented with their award by world famous Hollywood Director, Anthony Minghella who directed The English Patient. Praise came from First Light judge, the exhilarating stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong. He loved the film’s “really good performances and brilliant photography and art direction”.

Mobile Media Director, Shahina Johnson said, “We are thrilled with the achievement of the Boffin Club with their film Icehouse. Our work is all about creating opportunities for young people to gain skills in digital arts, and gain confidence in their abilities. The Boffin Club have grasped this opportunity wholeheartedly, and have already seen their film screened at youth film festivals around the country."

Keith Philips, tutor on the Icehouse, passed on his praise. "HUGE congratulations to the Boffins on winning Best Thriller at the First Light Film Awards in London with their film, Icehouse!!!"
